Jon's Pastor's Letter, September 2016 

Dear Friends

September is upon us and we launch into a new season of church life with many exciting opportunities and challenges ahead.  We have a full calendar of events for the whole church family and also opportunities to reach out to those around us.  In addition to this we have our very own Liberty Centre which is currently a work in progress but which will be a wonderful home for the Liberty family, and a hub of outreach into our community.  

As we move into this season it is really important that we, as a church and as individuals, remain well-grounded and with a clear focus on why we are doing what we are doing.  Last Sunday I spent some time outlining 3 clear purposes, or directions for us as a church as we move forward.  :

•    UP – to worship God
•    IN – to nurture the believers
•    OUT – to go with the Good News of Jesus Christ

These purposes are not just for this season, but for every season.  I believe that this is why the church exists and everything we do must be clearly linked to these purposes.  I also know that each of us within the Church family is called to these purposes as we work together to see God’s Kingdom come, in our own lives, in the lives of our brothers and sister in Christ, and also in the world around us.  

At the end of the meeting last Sunday I gave us all the opportunity to respond and to commit to these purposes together and I want to finish this letter with those words to allow you to reflect on them again and perhaps to make them a regular prayer of commitment as we move through this year.
 

•      Father, as a part of the Liberty Church Family, I commit myself to the purposes of this church.  
•     I commit myself to you God: to love and serve you with all my heart, my mind and my soul
•     I commit myself to the Liberty Church Family: to love, support and encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ
•     I commit myself to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to those around me, through my words and my actions

I believe that as each one of us commits our self to these purposes and works that commitment out through this coming season we will see great things in our own lives and in the lives of others.  I am looking forward to what God has in store for us in the days ahead.
