Jon's Pastor's Letter August 2017,
Dear Church Family
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Psalm 23:6
I always like the start of a new month. There is something psychologically refreshing about starting something new; new enthusiasm and resolve to live life well and to put the old month behind (have you ever started a new diet or fitness regime on the last day of the month??!). Anyway, this morning I woke early and spent some time reading my Bible and it just so happened that in my reading plan I had reached Psalm 23. I am usually drawn to the early verses of this wonderful Psalm, but this morning my attention fell on the very last verse, and the whole sense of God’s goodness and love for us.
I am aware that in life we can feel like a lot of things are following us. Sometimes it seems that trials and struggles seem to go with us, and we can’t seem to escape them. Sometimes it is poor health or difficult relationships, disappointments or regrets (sometimes it is rain - but that’s just what comes of living in Scotland!), but I wonder how many of us go through life with the overwhelming sense of God’s goodness and love following us.
My other reading this morning was from 1 John where in chapter 3 we read these wonderful words “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God”. This is a new day and a new month. As we start this new month, my prayer for the you, and for all the Liberty Family, is that, whatever has gone before, and whatever we have thought was following us, that today and through this month each of us would know that we are loved, and each of us would expect God’s goodness in our lives. In case you still haven’t taken it in yet, let me say: “You are loved”.
Much love and goodness
