Letter from Jon, February 2018

Dear Friends

Pressing In

Last Sunday morning I set out a clear direction for the Liberty Church family in 2018, outlining where we are going, what we are doing and also what we are not doing this year.  I summarised our vision in the two words “Pressing In”.  To press (in, on, through or forward) speaks of determination, perseverance and focus.  It speaks of setting our eyes on something worthy of all our efforts and giving ourselves to press in to make it happen.

As we move into 2018 there are two things I believe we need to press in to in 2018.  Firstly, and always most importantly, we need to press in to the presence of God.  Moses said to God in Exodus 33 “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here”.  Whatever we do in 2018, and wherever we go, we need the life transforming presence of God: his leading, his power, his healing, his rest and his provision.  There are so many things, many of them good, that can distract us from his presence, but if we are to be a people of his presence then we need to intentionally and relentlessly pursue him; pressing into his presence.  The presence of God changes everything.

We also need to press into our new home, Liberty Centre.  I want 2018 to be the year that Liberty Church finally moves into their own home and I am giving my time and energy this year to make it happen, but it will only happen if we, as a Church family, give ourselves to this goal, pressing in to make Liberty Centre a place of worship, friendship, life, hope and salvation.  It will require our time, effort, skills and money to make it happen, but I know it will be worth it.  It will mean focus and determination and it will mean saying ‘NO’ to other things that would distract us from this goal.

2018 is a significant year for Liberty Church and I am blessed and encouraged to be part of a Church family who love God and want to press in to all he has for us.  I mentioned on Sunday that 2019 marks 40 years of Liberty Church, and I want to celebrate (and we WILL celebrate!) in our own home; a family together in the presence of our wonderful God.  Now is the time to press in together.

Love and Blessings

Jon
