Letter from Jon, August 2019

Dear Family

Due to the fact that Fiona and I will still be on holiday at the beginning of August I thought I would write this letter a little earlier (how organised am I!!).  Last Sunday night we had an impromptu time of worship and prayer in our new home.  Over this last season we have been meeting to pray every second Sunday evening in ‘the prayer room’ of Liberty Centre. But over the last couple of weeks there has been great progress on the Gathering Area, our main room in phase 1 of our build, with contractors putting down carpets and putting up ceilings and with our amazing team of volunteers putting in doors and surrounds.  On Saturday morning our small work party did an amazing job of clearing this area and turning it from a building site into something very close to our new home.  We thought this was too good an opportunity to miss and so we decided to use our hour on Sunday evening to focus on worshipping our God in this room.  I was so encouraged to see so many who turned up to worship God together.  It was a wonderful, encouraging and refreshing time as we sang and prayed and exalted God together in our new home.

As our voices were raised in worship I got a glimpse of what is to come, of this room filled with people praising God together, giving testimony to the greatness of God.  A sense of those we have been praying for and those we have yet to meet joining us in worship.  A couple of weeks ago as we were prayer walking round the surrounding business park, we prayed that there would be members of the Liberty family in each of the businesses around us, influencing those around them and drawing others to God.  As we prayed I felt that God was saying “they are already there – they are just not in Liberty Church yet”.  God is going before us, as he always does, preparing the way, touching and drawing lives by his Spirit, and we are invited to step into God’s plans and see many come to faith. There is a hunger in Liberty Church for Spirit-filled worship and a hunger to see lives transformed by the Good News of Jesus Christ.  These things are part of the DNA of Liberty Church and were there 40 years ago when this church was birthed.

I have said that I believe we are entering a new era in the life of Liberty Church and I cannot wait for the first Sunday we all gather in worship in our new home – it is coming soon!

Love and Blessings

Jon
