Letter from Jon, November 2019
‘You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matt 5:14,16
Dear Friends
Last night we had our first community event in Liberty Centre with our Light Party. It was a huge success with 24 children playing games, doing crafts, eating and drinking and hearing about Jesus, the light of the world who has overcome the darkness. There was also great hospitality and welcome for the parents, some of whom stayed throughout. We had a great Liberty team helping to make the evening such a success.
A few weeks ago we had our first Sunday worship gathering in our new home; something I and many others had been dreaming about and longing for, and it did not disappoint. Last night, however, was equally exciting. Again, something many of us have dreamed about; our own home where we can invite the community in and be light to them. This is just the beginning. I know we will have many more Light Parties, and many more events where our home will be filled with light and hope, as we, the Liberty family, live out Jesus’ call to be the ‘light of the world’.
As the clocks changed last week we become so much more aware of darkness with shorter daylight hours. We have had to put in more outside lighting at Liberty Centre to guide people safely to the door and to make people feel safe. In the same way, as we engage further with the people around us, we will become more and more aware of the darkness that surrounds and overwhelms so many lives. There are so many opportunities to be a light in the darkness and to point people to Jesus, the Light of the world.
I am so encouraged and excited about what God is already doing amongst us, and about what is to come for the Liberty Family. As I preached last Sunday, this is a time for growth. Let us expect it and continue to live to see it happen as we shine brightly in the darkness.
Love and blessing
Jon
