Letter from Jon, January 2021

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

John 13:34,35

Dear Liberty Family

Happy New Year, or as many have said ‘Glad to see the back of 2020!’  Like many people, at the change of a year, I have spent some time reflecting on the year that has been and looking forward to the year to come.  For most of us 2020 was a very challenging year, and for some it was an awful year.

As I considered the year and focussed on those things which were good, or which I could give thanks for, I realise how much I appreciated being part of the Liberty Church Family.  In a year that certainly had its challenges I so much appreciated the love, encouragement and support of this Family. I also took great comfort and strength from seeing a God-centred community in action, reaching out to each other. I realise that the firm foundations we have laid as a Church, in terms of family and mutual support, put us in a good place to withstand the storms of 2020, and I am so grateful to be a part of such a family.

As we move into 2021, still facing enormous challenges as a society, but with glimmers of hope on the horizon, I realise that the words of Jesus to his disciples over that last meal before Jesus was crucified are fundamental to our vision in the coming year. If we are to stay strong together, and if we are to be a witness to Christ to those around us in 2021, then we must continue to love one another as Jesus loved us, a love which served, forgave and gave everything.  I believe that if we love each other with even a fraction of the love that Jesus showed, a love which washed his disciples feet and then surrendered his life on a cross, then we will be a light in the darkness to each other and to the world around us this year.

Thank you for being part of the Family this last year and I pray that whatever 2021 holds for you and those you love, that you would know that you are loved by your Heavenly Father, and by your brothers and sisters in Christ at Liberty.

Love and Huge Blessings

Jon
