Letter from Jon, October 2022

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
                                                                Matt 6:10

Dear Liberty Friends

I feel incredibly blessed to serve God as part of Liberty Church in this generation. I want to express my gratitude to all who were there this morning, to the Tuesday team who have done an incredible amount of work over many years, to Stan for coordinating all the work, and to all the Liberty family who have made it possible over many years for us to be in our own home, whether through hard graft, faithful prayer or providing finance and resource.

This morning we had our work party in Liberty Centre, filling several skips with rubble and metal and so much more that had been stripped out over the last months by our amazing Tuesday team of retired guys.  We had people painting the playroom and one of our meeting rooms, weeding the path outside and, of course, keeping everyone well supplied with bacon rolls, home baking and tea and coffee.  It was such a joy to see this team working together with a common purpose and vision, to see our home completed.

There is, of course, so much work still to be done until we complete the next phase of development which will give us an auditorium and other large rooms, but just seeing the impact that the team had this morning was such an encouragement.  Just walking through the space at the end of the morning brought fresh vision, imagining again these rooms filled with the sound of worship and praise, and with a sense of hope and expectation.

This morning was also a reminder of the power of community, of belonging, of a people working together with a common goal.  Of course, a building, in one sense, is just steel and brick and concrete; a tool for us to use.  In another sense it becomes memories of God’s kingdom being worked out in very practical ways, of encounters with God, of celebration and healing and hope.  As we work together on bringing our home to completion, I believe it changes us, forming us and making us realise that even throwing bricks into a skip is part of God’s plan.  We do it to see his kingdom come and his will done, in our lives and our community.  We do it so that people, young and old, will know the hope of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

I believe that Liberty Centre will be a home for so many in the years to come, it will be a place of community and life, of shelter and safety, of hope and salvation and we look forward to the day when the next phase is completed and the wall between our current space and our new auditorium comes down.

Thank you Father for bringing us this far and for promising to go with us as we see your kingdom come in the years ahead

Love and blessing

Jon
